THE CONTEXT

A new way to get know-how.

The ambition was to introduce the company to a new way of solving technical problems: something different from the usual tender (buy) and in-house development (make). The first opportunity was built around a real use case: airborne object recognition for search and rescue and environmental awareness.

My contribution

I conceived and technically led the initiative from its initial concept to public launch in collaboration with Google. I coordinated dataset creation, competition design and cross-functional activities, bringing together Engineering, Legal, Finance, Trade Compliance, Marketing and other corporate stakeholders.

THE OUTCOME

Launched publicly. Later closed.

The competition was prematurely closed following ethical concerns raised by the community about the dual-use nature of Leonardo. For me, the lesson was that innovation is also about positioning it where its purpose and value can be understood and responsibly received.
